Our practice focuses on diagnosis and management of all allergic conditions including asthma, hay fever, sinusitis, hives, itching, eye allergies, headaches, food allergies, stinging insect allergies, chronic cough, and skin allergies.
We will do our best to find the cause of your problem, and refer you to the appropriate specialist if indicated. We are particularly involved in investigating the health effects of mold or water damage exposure.
We now have the capability of using UVB-NB (narrow band) to treat various skin disorders. Although our practice focuses primarily on severe atopic dermatitis and other severely itching skin conditions, UVB-NB has been reported to be effective for treating psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, vitiligo (loss in skin pigments) , and possibly localized scleroderma. Its worst potential side effect is a sun burn but its greatest utility is to act as a safe and effective alternative to more toxic drugs.
**********Late-breaking News- May 1, 2010**********
People with allergies in general , asthma and atopic dermatitis in particular, are at higher risk for invasive pneumococcal infections which often lead to serious complications and even death. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices has recently recommended that all adults with asthma from age 19 up receive the 23-valent pneumococcal vaccine. We would add atopic dermatitis or atopic eczema to this list.
Do note that the vaccine may not necessarily reduce the frequency of pneumococcal infections, but will reduce the serious complications.
Talk to your doctors regarding getting this vaccine now. This vaccine does not contain any egg product, so egg-allergy is not an issue. |
