Dr Chiu obtained both his bachelor degree in Chemistry and doctor of medicine degree at the University of Vermont. He also attended Harvard College. His rotating internship and residency in Internal Medicine were completed at Marquette University (currently known as the Medical College of Wisconsin). His fellowship training in Allergy, Immunology, and Rheumatology was obtained at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla, California. He is certified by the American Board of Allergy and Immunology which is jointly sponsored by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics and holds a faculty appointment at the University of California at Irvine as Clinical Professor of Medicine.
Dr Chiu has published many original research articles (not drug studies) in most of the major journals related to his specialty as well as the Journal of the American Medical Association. He had also lectured to physicians in the US and overseas and had served as a sponsored speaker for the New Jersey School of Medicine and Dentistry on upper respiratory tract infections. Dr Chiu is a fellow in the American Academy of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, the American College of Allergy, Asthma, Clinical Immunology, and the American College of Chest Physicians. He has also served as the President of the Orange County Society of Allergy and Immunology in the past.
In the past 4 years, Dr Chiu has served as a medical expert witness in over 250 cases involving health effects from water damage and mold exposure; a subject which is currently garnering increasing attention. He has been listed as one of the nation's best allergists and immunologists by both “Top Doctors” and “Top Physicians”.
